On the 10th October 2017, Transparency International UK is launching a new free-to-use anti-bribery guidance portal. This flagship guidance presents anti-bribery and corruption best practice for companies, drawing upon expertise from over 120 leading compliance and legal practitioners.
We’ve called the portal our Global Anti-Bribery Guidance because it aims to articulate emerging international anti-corruption good practice informed by the UK Bribery Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, other local requirements and the ISO37001:2016 anti-bribery standard.
In doing so, we’re recognising that there’s an emerging standard that actually sets the bar higher than any single national requirement.
The guidance covers the core bribery risks faced by companies, for example managing third parties and procurement, but it also explores areas of emerging anti-corruption best practice around, for example, corporate culture and incentives, political engagement, and the importance of public reporting and organisational transparency.
The guidance will help in-house lawyers be alert to, and have a greater understanding of the following issues:
- the legal and reputational risks relating to bribery and corruption that the company may be facing
- what measures can be put in place to mitigate those risks
- what steps can be taken should an incident occur
