Oran Kiazim is a senior data protection advisor in Bird & Bird’s Privacy & Data Protection practice providing strategic and practical support to its multinational clients.
Having built a global privacy program from the ground up, Oran understands what privacy compliance means in practice. He takes a pragmatic approach with his clients and help them translate their legal obligations into operational reality.
Oran’s work covers all aspects of privacy and data protection law, including carrying out data protection impact assessments and developing practical data breach response procedures, as well as creating global privacy compliance frameworks that comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and implement Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs).
He has particular expertise in advising on employment-related privacy matters, data breaches and international data transfers, including intra-group data transfer agreements.
Oran regularly assists national and multinational companies in negotiating data processing and data sharing agreements across a broad range of topics, including online, mobile and digital advertising (ePrivacy), SaaS solutions and e-commerce platforms. More recently, he has advised clients in the financial services sector on privacy-related compliance, including the interplay between GDPR and the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2).
Before joining Bird & Bird in 2018, he created and led the global privacy team at Sterling, a global pre-employment background screening company headquartered in the United States. Oran was also a legal expert at the Court of Justice of the European Union, advising the EU Justices on various aspects of UK law.
Oran is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), holding CIPP/E and CIPM certifications and has frequently spoken at international data protection conferences both in Europe and the United States.
